I called that mid-season, serious damage was the only reason I could think of for a guy with his history to be pitching so poorly. No movement, just flat pitches. They guy is a good pitcher, a decent #3 or solid #4 at worst. It had to be TJ surgery.
I think this will benefit the Sox in two ways. It will force them to go get a starter this off season, and a healthy, motivated Lackey in 2013 should have a good season. In many ways, they could have an even better starting rotation in 2013 (on paper) than they ever have, assuming they go get a decent starter and lock him up for a few years.
Either way, at least there is some news OTHER than beer coming out of Fenway.

You sure he ain't the pitcher? He's a utility guy - he does both.

I read tweets that Ortiz was not going to arbitration, but the reports are false.

I would imagine these will be the first of many. They still need pitching! I would bet that Boegarts, Middlebrooks, Cespedes and Victorino could go next.

Well, they fired Farrell.
Sounds like Ausmus will be the replacement, don't want Ausmus. I think there are better options out there like Alex Cora or Eric Wedge.
