Boston Bruins currently have 61 points, good for 1st in Eastern Conference. They are 3rd overall in the league with 2 Canadian teams ahead of them by just a single point with 62..Neither of the Canadian teams are Toronto or Edmonton. Who ever thought that when season began as the 2 teams ahead of us are Winnipeg and Vancouver. Below are the Wildcard Standings as of Wed, Jan 17th 2024..We're just in to the 2nd half of the season. Leafs are clinging to 3rd in the Atlantic but just barely..After losing 4 straight, they're just 2 points up on Pittsburgh who are currently outside the wildcard spot 9th in Conference. www.espn.com/nhl/standings/_/view/wild-card

With Detroits overtime victory over Florida, Wings leapfrog Toronto for sole position of 3rd in the Atlantic Division, dropping Toronto to the 1st wildcard position, just 2 pts ahead of 9th place Pittsburgh.. www.espn.com/nhl/standings/_/view/wild-card

With the All Star festivities now behind us, the NY Islanders began the stretch run with a critical victory over the Maple Leafs..Former Leaf Pierre Engvoll scored with 2 minutes remaining in regulation to beat the Leafs 3-2..The win was huge for the Isles as they hold down the 9th place position and climb to within 4pts of Detroit and Toronto who are currently the wild card holders but the Leafs have 2 games in hand on both mentioned teams.. Boston Bruins lead the Florida Panthers by 5 points and the Cats are the closest team in the east to the conference leading Bruins..Bruins are back in action tomorrow night vs Calgary Flames who are 5 points out of a playoff spot.. www.espn.com/nhl/standings/_/view/wild-card

It's pretty clear to see where the Bruins are, Leafs right on their tail and Florida has taken over first place..Big week for Bruins as they play Leafs twice and Edm in between,,GO BRUINS, surprise the heck out of us at least next 3 games..Win or lose, at least give a 60 minute effort!!! www.espn.com/nhl/standings/_/view/wild-card

Bruins back to 1st overall after beating Philly and Florida losing to TB.. Here's a wierd stat for you:: NJD are 6 pts out of a playoff spot while Toronto is comfortable in a playoff spot BUT NJ has 27 regulation wins while Leafs have only 26, same as Buffalo and Philly..Florida has 37 while Bruins only have 31 after so many OT/SO games, same as Leafs!! www.espn.com/nhl/standings/_/view/wild-card

Ok Guys, here are the updated standings as of now..Bruins have 2 games left against Florida and should decide whether we play the Leafs 1st rd or the Wildcard team..IF Bruins plays Islanders in 1st rd and beats them in the series, do we automatically play a Metro team next or winner of Flo/Tor??? I still get a little confused with 2nd round action..Should be 1-8, 2-7 right through..1st overall team deserves to play team with least pts even if it didnt work our way last season.. www.espn.com/nhl/standings/_/view/wild-card

It's a "bracket" style now. I miss the old system - 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc. as well. Top seed plays the lowest seed in the next round was a way better way to do it. Some of these 1st or 2nd round matchups are just crazy - having teams that are both top 5 or 6 in the league play in the first round? What a joke! What I'd love to see and they will never do it is a 1 vs 16, 2 vs 15, 3 vs 14, etc. and just let the chips fall where they may. You'd see some really interesting matchups and it would be way more exciting not knowing who exactly will play who in a lot of cases until the very end. One other cool idea is the way the PWHL is doing their playoff format: The first-place team will have a 24-hour window to select its semifinal opponent – choosing between the third- or fourth-place teams. Imagine choosing your opponent! Very creative way to do it!

With roughly 10 games remaining on the reg season schedule, have you EVER seen it this close?? Canucks and Rangers have 98 points..Boston, Florida,Carolina, Dallas and Colorado each have 97 points.. SEVEN teams are separated by a single point at the top of the standings. Maybe Bruins are better off finishing 2nd to Florida and playing Leafs 1st round. I would rather they sit veterans like Marchand although they'll have to tie him up somewhere to keep him off the ice..But a little break for Marchand, Coyle, Zacha, etc..That just might be a great boost in the 1st round with some veterans getting good rest.Is it really worth it beginning playoffs now?? Thats pretty much what it will be here on out and injuries WILL happen to some teams..I would call up some players from Providence and rest some guys.I'm not saying, wave the white flag for Presidents Trophy but thats not the one we want either. Bruins need to be a well rested team once it all begins.. www.espn.com/nhl/standings/_/view/wild-card

As you can all see here, the Bruins could win all their remaining games and still finish 2nd behind the Rangers..WHO Bruins play 1st round is still up in the air but I think it being the Leafs or Tampa is the likliest, no matter if Bruins finish ahead of Florida or below them, TB could be into play no matter where Bruins finish..TB can still overtake Leafs and Bruins can win or lose division..Personally I would much rather Leafs over TB but I might regret that later.. Here are the updated standings.... www.espn.com/nhl/standings/_/view/wild-card

Here are the updated standings up to Sat, Apr 13th..Draw your own conclusions but it seems pretty obvious who Bruins play 1st rd and our Captain seems quite content with that..VERY anxious to see what impact Pat Maroon will have and as for any concerns over Andrei Vasilevskiy stealing a series, I believe we have TWO goaltenders that might wanna have a say in that!!GO BRUINS ALWAYS!!! www.espn.com/nhl/standings/_/view/wild-card
