I would say both. They need to get back to dredging and soon.

Is it the infrastructure or the Weather events are getting worse ? They decided to stop dredging rivers about years back so I am thinking that has a lot to do with it. Here we have storm ponds for when the infrastructure gets overwhelmed , they need maintenance every tens years or so . The municipalities were skipping maintenance until recently. When I was working on some of the ponds they were half silted in so if bad storm hits lots of basements flooded which is way more expensive than maintenance.

-30C (-22F) here today at the moment. We had a brown Christmas here which is pretty rare but now getting smoked with the typical January cold snap! Snow finally did settle in just after New Years. We have years where we have snow from Mid-Oct through to April so not bad this year!

I haven't seen many EVs abandoned locally but I have heard a ton of stories about people running out of battery much faster and having trouble charging them and just leaving them at charging stations in other cities. Alberta was putting out quite a few alerts about their power grid being overwhelmed and telling people to not charge EVs, not use block heaters, not use major appliances at certain times of the day etc. but in Saskatchewan we managed to get through it.

Lots of stories down here about the chargers not working because it is too cold. So the lots are full of cars waiting for a charge.

Hybrid would be the way I personally would go , I don’t trust range there selling especially in the cold .

They were chatting about it on the news the other day about how much range is lost when temperatures are below -15. Some of the EVs lost 30 percent of their range when it gets cold. There were all these tips for extending the range (use heated seats and heated steering wheel to stay warm instead of your heater, don'e accelerate too fast...haha stuff like that!). I think they have a long way to go before you see widespread adoption where I live if that's the case in -15!

That technology would be really good for city dwellers.

Same here. Hiked yesterday in a long sleeved shirt. Today have the winter coat on with a hat and gloves. Supposed to be warm again the next 10 days. Not a lot of snow on the ground right now.
