I think DonnyBrook is right...if fighting was a problem relating to concussions the MMA would not exist or would be concussion plagued, same with Boxing.
The concussion problem is largely due to the equipment, that players are bigger and faster while the ice size is still as small as it was 60 years ago.... Then there is the almost complete lack of respect players have for each other on the ice and I still maintain that that problem increased exponentially when our favorite commissioner put the instigator rule in place.
Take the instigator rule out and the plastic out of the equipment and things will get better. This would not happen over night but would over time.

one other advocate i listened to was for the college game.
he talked how his game has far less concussions than the nhl.
he stemmed it to no fighting in college.
give me a break. they have full face shields. they play less games. they are not fully developed athletes like pros for the most part.

I was talking to bar keep last B4 the game & he plays hockey too. He a Philly fan BUT I digress WE both agreed that the body armor that Cherry & others here have stated IS the main cause of concussions. Go back to the non armor equipment. Yes the players WILL have to adjust crashing into the boards. It worked for decades & it can again.

Sidney Crosby has injury to C1 and C2 vertebrae. What? When did that happen? Original injury or since I'm wondering.

The Crosby neck injury report was on Sportsnet. It reads like a bit of soap opera, however..
Crosby was talking to his good frend Tom Brady and Brady's wife Gisele is on the phone too. Both encourage Crosby to see Brady's special doctor in Utah.
Utah doctor does full MRI and uncovers the C1, C2 things. Crosby then flies to LA to see a specialist.

Has TSN found a way to blame the neck injury on the Boston Bruins yet? Or blame the Bruins for the inability of Pitts medical staff in detecting the neck injury?

Not that I've seen yet, but I just saw a lead in for NHL Network's talk with the Commissioner segment where they are going to discuss head injuries/shots. And the first clip before they cut to commercial was the inadvertant backwards elbow that Krejci gave the Golden Child.

The Savard hit did do one thing. It signalled the end of a very sad chapter in Bruins history where transgressions against Bruins players went unchallenged or were left up to NHL justice.
This team you see now - the team that dishes out beat downs for the over the line bullshit (and won the Cup) - was a result. And it doesn't seem to be just a blip. This time it looks like it will stick.
