As anticipated, the Bruins made a number of roster moves, just announced now at approximately 10:25 p.m.
Top draft pick Doug Hamilton has been returned to his junior team (Niagara Ice Dogs), and the same goes for Alexander Khokhlachev (Windsor), Jared Knight (London) and Ryan Spooner (Kingston).
The following have been assigned to Providence (AHL): Andrew Bodnarchuk, Ryan Button, Marc Cantin, Carter Camper, Craig Cunningham, Josh Hennessy, Kirk MacDonald, Nathan McIver, Kevan Miller and Mamie Tardif,
In all, that's a total of 14 players released, making for a much more nimble training camp contingent.

That's our top prospects right there; it's nice we can afford to be patient in light of just winning the cup and having very little turn over. I got to wonder how Spooner feels having been cut this early and maybe thinking he had a shot this year. Next year PC will have bigger decisions to make when it comes to managing assets with several FA's and more prospects potentially ready to go.

Gotta think Clode wants a more veteran type in Clark or the size of a Caron. Good problems to have.

Gotta think Clode wants a more veteran type in Clark or the size of a Caron. Good problems to have. Nothing against Clark but I hope that the one open spot comes down between Caron and Pouliot. I guess it does make some sense to have Clark as a 13th forward rather than have Caron rust in the press box but I would much prefer Caron and Pouliot to push each other for ice time all year and I guess we can alternate Paille into that group as well. A lot of people are penciling in Peverley as the 2nd line RW and Seguin as 3rd line center or wing. I have no doubt that Peverley can do the job but I hope it doesn't happen. It doesn't help Seguin's development playing with Kelly and ? moving forward, also it'll drive up Peverley's asking price next year because he'll have a ton of chances working with Bergeron and Marchand.

Peverly can pot a few but I'm a bit he's shocked he's all but penciled in on the 2nd line and they demoted everyone so fast without trying some more combinations. Of course the kids were all long shots to make the team, especially with so little roster turn over, but a bit more of a look in pre-season games would've been nice.

I think the kids were alright but no one really stood out to me and that gets them all sent back to junior. Injuries etc. might change all that but I think as it stands we won't be seeing a whole lot of Spooner, Knight, Hamilton until there are actually roster spots to battle for. There was little turnover and we don't have to rush any of these guys so that is actually a huge plus. Seguin is only going to continue to get better and as that happens he will see more ice. I'd have him on line two to start the season but Claude is more conservative and will want Peverley up there.

I agree they didn't really have the roster spots to compete for but I still think more than one preseason game for each of them would have given a better overall assessment of what they might bring to the table. Maybe old JJ piped in because he spent too much on travel during the finals and wanted the team to cut travel costs for preseason?!

So naturally, he'll get spot duty on the 4th line - Claude Julien. Just kidding. Hopefully this isn't just preseason and he really presses and pushes for top line duty. Thank you Brian Burke.

Agreed that they could have given the kids more playing time but I think their time will eventually come. It's pretty clear to management, coaching staff, us fans in general that none of those guys had a legitimate shot at cracking the line up so down they go. I liked the little bit I did see of a few guys though especially Hamilton.

Hamil looked good last night (not kidding), I know he is not making the team but he still doesn't have to clear waivers to go back to P either so should we keep him around on the farm for depth or shop him now?

Too many talented, young players to fit on the roster. Not a bad problem to have.

I guess Hamil does have to clear waivers. I heard on TSN that both Whitfield and Hamil were placed on waivers today. I'll try to find it in print.

Zach Hamill, the No. 8 overall pick of the 2007 draft, has been placed on waivers with the purpose of being assigned to Providence. TSN first reported the transaction.
This is Hamill’s fourth professional year, but he remains on his entry-level contract, which is good for three seasons for most junior players. Hamill is on an entry-level slide because of his late birth date (Sept. 23, 1988) and when he signed his contract (Aug. 8, 2007).
According to assistant GM Jim Benning, Hamill must clear waivers because he has played in the AHL for three full seasons. The Bruins do not expect Hamill to be claimed.
Hamill has been a major disappointment. The 23-year-old center has appeared in four NHL games, recording one assist. Hamill has yet to establish himself as a consistent AHL center. Last season, Hamill put up a 9-34—43 line in 68 games. If Hamill is not claimed, the Bruins are hoping he will develop more efficiently under first-year head coach Bruce Cassidy, formerly Rob Murray’s assistant.

At the time, I was also hoping Voracek was going to drop to our pick. But after him, I was ok with anyone but a muchkin with some decent moves. Sutter, Perron, Couture, Ellerby...all left on the board after Hamill's name was called.

That leaves Steven Kampfer and Matt Bartkowski in a showdown for the final spot. The two are just about dead-even, so their play in the last couple of exhibition games likely will be decisive.
I don't get the Bartkowski love. I didn't think he was any where close to Kampfer in that last exibition game and I have yet to be impressed by his game. I'll keep watching, I must be missing something.

Kampfer is definitely the slicker of the two and maybe Claude's favorite, " When the 2-4 weeks is over the competition begins again." I have noticed how Bartkowski has bulked up in the off season. The one advantage he may have on Kampfer is the thump factor, now we'll see if he takes advantage of the opportunity.

I'm not sure if it's just a confidence thing or is his hockey sense a question mark. He loves to force pucks up the middle of the ice but most of the time it gets picked off. Maybe he got away with it in the other leagues and just needs to adjust. ;D

I wonder what happens with Clark? I've read somewhere that the 25 still on the roster will be going on a team building trip. Obviously there are still a few cuts to be made.

I'm assuming the third line wing position was Pouliot's to lose so at the very least I hope they keep Caron up as the 13th forward over Clark. I think Pouliot will play his way into Julien's dog house eventually so Caron will get his opportunities.
